These are the tools I actually use — cameras, lenses, software, and accessories that have earned a permanent place in my kit. No padding, no products I don’t believe in. Some links are affiliate links, which means I earn a small commission if you buy through them, at no extra cost to you.

Cameras

I shoot with two Sony bodies. The A7RV is my primary camera — the resolution is extraordinary for landscape work and the files hold up beautifully in post. The A7CII is my lightweight alternative for travel and longer days on foot. It’s a remarkable camera for its size and one I reach for whenever weight matters. Both are outstanding and between them they cover everything I need.

I’m not a Sony affiliate, so there’s no commercial reason for me to recommend them — I just genuinely rate them.

Lenses

Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II
This lives on the A7RV most of the time. Optically superb, versatile enough for landscapes and environmental work, and the f/2.8 aperture gives you genuine creative flexibility in low light. It’s heavy but earns its place.

Sony Zeiss FE 16-35mm f/4
My go-to for wide landscape work. The Zeiss rendering is beautiful, it’s compact enough to not feel like a burden, and the 16mm end gives you real reach into a scene. A lens I consistently trust.

Sony FE 24-240mm f/3.5-6.3
The lens I underestimated for years. Light, versatile, and genuinely capable — particularly useful for travel when you want one lens on the camera and nothing else in the bag. Don’t dismiss it because of the variable aperture; in good light it consistently delivers.

Editing Software

DxO PhotoLab
My RAW processor of choice and the foundation of my editing workflow. The noise reduction is class-leading and the optical corrections are the best I’ve found. If you shoot Sony in RAW, this should be your starting point.

Nik Collection
Bundled with DxO and essential to how I work. Silver Efex Pro in particular is the finest black and white processing tool I’ve used — the control film simulations give you over tonality is something Lightroom simply can’t match.

Luminar
Luminar Neo is my go-to for quick AI-assisted sky and background work when I want speed over full manual control, or for creating a stylised look for social media posts.

Dehancer
Dehancer brings genuine film emulation into my workflow, and it’s become my favourite way to add analogue character to black and white work.

Adobe Lightroom & Photoshop
I use Lightroom for cataloguing and organising my work, and Photoshop for more complex finishing. Together with DxO they cover my entire workflow from import to final output.

Tablet & Input Devices

Xencelabs Medium Tablet Bundle & Quick Keys
I picked these up at the Photography Show earlier this year and they’ve genuinely changed how I work at the desk. Editing with a pen rather than a mouse gives you far more precision over brushwork in Lightroom and Photoshop — masking, dodging and burning, local adjustments — all of it feels more natural and controlled. The Quick Keys controller sits alongside and handles the shortcuts I use constantly. Once you make the switch it’s hard to go back.

Tripod

K&F Carbon Fibre Tripod
Solid, lightweight, and well-priced. Does everything I need for long exposure landscape work without the weight penalty of cheaper alternatives. No affiliate arrangement here — just a straightforward recommendation.
